Client is a landlord who runs a liquor store for a long time at city of Takasaki, two hours north from Tokyo by train. He feels a big sense of crisis in reduction of local retails, while condominium developments and large shopping centers are planned in front of the main station. Local various events such as Takasaki Festival, Takasaki music festival, and cinema festival also have been declining.
Through numbers of discussions with the client and a developer who will be joint venture, programs were established to secure benefit of the project. In the premise that commercial at the lower part and residence at the upper part, the building is designed to connect with the street and the city to spread bustling and the economic effect to the city. As the building is set back, a slope roof terrace that connect street level to retails at upper levels is placed, and enriches the customer’s shopping experience as they hike the trails.

高崎駅から徒歩10分圏内の商業と集合住宅の複合施設。
周囲では地域に対し閉鎖的で無機質なマンションや、大型ショッピングセンターなどの開発が続き、その一方で徐々に町中の商店や人が減り、賑わいが失われており、長く高崎に住んでいる施主はそのことに危機感を感じていた。また、町の人々が守り継いできた高崎祭り、音楽祭、シネマフェスティバルなどの、地域の様々な活動も埋もれつつある。そこで我々は、施主及び共同事業者となるディベロッパーと話し合いを重ね、事業性を確保しつつ、町に賑わいを還元するような建築の構想に至った。
セットバックさせた建物の前面にスロープ状のテラスと階段を設け、山や丘を散策するような楽しく歩き回る体験と、町中のイベントの受け皿となる場を生み出した。レンガ通り商店街からも自然と繋がる配置とし、そこで行われる様々な活動が商店街、そして町へと波及するように計画している。
1～3階にはカフェ、ベーカリーや施主の営むワイン店などが入る。テラスを自由に散策しながら飲食ができ、目の前を通る高崎祭りの観覧の場や、シネマフェスティバルの一会場としてアウトドアシネマにもなる。4階には、ワイン店と提携した、結婚式のできるバンケット兼レストランが入居予定で、アウトドアチャペルも計画している。上階は住居ゾーンとし、階段側には共用施設を設け、住居各住戸には日照時間の長い高崎の気候を生かした風と光の抜けるサンルームを配した。
道から続くスロープと階段によって、町から個人の居場所までが自然で地続きに繋がることを期待している。
