The change in level from the street keeps passersby at a comfortable distance while inviting in the full sky and greenery of the vacant lot next door. These unremarkable fragments of daily life — a share of vegetables from the field across the way, a passing word with a neighbor on the street — are, little by little, what makes this small house's life rich.
