STUDIO YYは、地域の歴史・文化・自然を丁寧に読み解きながら、そこに集う人々の活動を主役にする建築を設計する。素材と構法を場所の固有性から選びとり、日常の使われ方のなかに静かな祝祭性が宿る器をつくることを目指している。
We unearth the memory of a place and weave new relationships between people and their surroundings.
STUDIO YY designs architecture that reads the history, culture, and nature of each site with care — and keeps the lives of those who gather there at the center of every decision. Materials and methods of construction are chosen from the particular character of place. Our aim is a building that holds a quiet sense of occasion within the ordinary rhythms of everyday use.

1982年福島県生まれ。Y-GSA修了後、アムステルダムのNL Architectsで国際的な実践を経験し、帰国後はNAP建築設計事務所に参画。2015年にSTUDIO YYを共同設立。木造・公共建築を主軸に、場所の文化と素材に根ざした建築を追求する。

Born 1982 in Fukushima Prefecture. After completing graduate studies at Y-GSA — one of Japan's foremost architecture schools — Tanaka worked at NL Architects in Amsterdam before joining NAP Architects in Tokyo. He co-founded STUDIO YY in 2015. His work is grounded in the spatial and cultural specificity of each site, with a particular focus on timber construction and community architecture.

1977年鳥取県生まれ。渡米後、カリフォルニアで建築を学び、ニューヨークではAsymptote、REX、OMAにて大規模な文化・都市プロジェクトに携わる。帰国後はNAP建築設計事務所を経て、2015年にSTUDIO YYを共同設立。国際的な視野と日本の場所・素材文化への深い理解を結びつけた設計を実践する。

Born 1977 in Tottori Prefecture. Nakamoto studied architecture in California before spending four years in New York — at Asymptote Architecture, REX Architects, and OMA — where he contributed to a range of large-scale cultural and urban projects. Returning to Japan, he joined NAP Architects and co-founded STUDIO YY in 2015. His international background informs a practice that bridges rigorous conceptual thinking with a deep sensitivity to Japanese place and material culture.
